5-HIAA in Urine
5-Hydroxyindolacetic acid (5-HIAA) is a metabolite of the serotonin pathway. Serotonin and its major urinary metabolite 5-HIAA, is produced in excess by most enterochromaffin cells from carcinoid tumors, especially those associated with the carcinoid syndrome. Several studies and publications show that analysis of urinary 5-HIAA is important in diagnosis of carcinoid patients.
For the determination of 5-HIAA in urine LDN offers a simple and robust competitive ELISA kit. The 5-HIAA ELISA provides high specificity and an excellent correlation to a highly sophisticated XLC-MS/MS method.
